MTR Research Funding Scheme Application 2024

Introduction

Following the success of the 1st round of the MTR Research Funding (MRF) Scheme, i.e. MRF2023, the Academy is now inviting applications for MRF2024.

MRF aims to support exploratory and up-stream research to create and build future operations and services in mass public transportation. The MRF Scheme welcomes proposals from all disciplines of academic research to contribute towards the sustainable development of rail transport and to keep Hong Kong ahead of future transport challenges.

                    

Scheme Highlights:

  • Maximum total funding up to HK$1.5 million over 3 years
  • Proposals from all disciplines or multi-discipline collaboration welcomed
  • All proposals to be peer-reviewed
  • Research studentship strongly encouraged with stipends supported
  • IPR ownership to be negotiated
  • Selected research themes in each call for proposals
  • Opportunity to continue research or development with MTR and its subsidiaries

Themes of 2024

  • Railway System & Operation Resilience
  • Human Factors in Railway Transport and Services

Proposals are expected to:

  • Look well beyond current problems, constraints, and data
  • Define the future rail transport system performance, commuting experience, business models, community integration, social impacts, etc.
  • Explore and investigate the challenges for the society, operator, individuals, environment, economy, etc.
  • Put forward innovative solutions to address the challenges
  • Come from all disciplines of research
  • Contain little or no background IP

Data Access

MTR Academy does not have access to the system and operations data of MTR. Proposals should not assume any provision of data from MTR even if they are approved.
